The goods will not be manufactured/delivered until the customer's funds that have been paid to Alton Tiles have cleared in full. English Hand Made is the internet trading name of Alton Tiles.
Order Notes
Please note that all transactions will be carried out in GB Sterling. Once you have placed your order, confirmation will be sent to you via e-mail complete with Transaction and Order Reference numbers. English Hand Made monitor prices on a daily basis.
We will not be held responsible for pricing errors due to software mal-functions, or human error. This website operates on an 'invitation to treat' basis and not as an 'offer for sale' as a result, English Hand Made reserves the right to decline orders for bulk or high value purchases.
Delivery
Your order will be sent to you as soon as the products have been crafted usually 1-3 weeks from order confirmation. We will endeavour to keep you informed of progress.

Returns, Cancellation & Guarantee
We guarantee your satisfaction, however, the products are manufactured to order and personalised to your specification. You are entitled to cancel your order prior to the commencement of production which is confirmed at the point that payment is received. Owing to the hand made nature of the products, tiles cannot be returned unless found to contain manufacturing defects (please see ‘Colour Variations’ below). We will also be unable to re-stock any over ordered tiles owing to variations in batch colours.
On receipt of your goods you should check the tiles carefully and inform us of any concerns within 24 hours.

Colour Variations
Due to the handmade nature of the tiles, the surface undulates gently, allowing natural shading to occur. These distinctive yet subtle variations in the shade of each tile, moulding and border mean no two pieces are ever identical which gives a wonderful impression of depth to tiled areas, adding to the beauty and charm of our handmade tiles. There may also be subtle shade variations between the background colour on decorative tiles and their matching field tile due to their handmade nature.
Before fixing tiles it is important to lay them out in good light to ensure that any shade difference is evenly distributed.
Some of the glazes are subject to crazing, in particular Soft Yellow, Marine Blue, Deep Turquoise and Splash. Some crazing may continue for some time even after installation. In addition, some glazes may display ‘pin’ marks or the artists finger prints, this is an inherent part of hand-made tiles and adds to their rustic nature.
When using in wet areas, crazed tiles should be sealed with an inpregnator to stop moisture penetrating the body of the tile and causing discolouration.
Dimensions
All dimensions shown throughout this website are nominal due to the hand-made nature of the tiles, actual dimensions for individual tiles may vary from these figures. Installation
For full installation instructions, including grouting and adhesive recommendations, please refer to the seller for information.
In the USA, please follow the recommendations of a reputable adhesive manufacturer and always comply with the American National StandardsInstitute (ANSI) specifications as set out in the Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation published by the Tile Council of America.
Special Care
Wash down tiled surfaces with either clean water or a neutral (i.e. not acidic or alkaline) detergent. Dry off and polish with a dry duster.
Anthracite tiles contains elements which may discolour if they are left wet for prolonged periods or cleaned by strong acids or bleach. We recommend they are wiped down immediately if they become wet.
Emerald Green, Lime Green, Marine Blue, Moonstone and Prussian Blue are copper-based glazes which are prone to discolouration by the very mild acids often found in the home, for example in lemon scented soaps. To avoid this, wash them with clean water only and wipe dry them. Tiles in these colours are recommended for use in dry areas only, do not use tiles near the kitchen sink or in shower cubicles.
The same care should be taken with the Simply Leaves range.
Tiles used on work surfaces will show signs of wear and surface scratching. The tiles are not suitable for exterior use.
Free Design Service
This service is provided soley at our descretion and can be withdrawn at any time. We will not visit your property and all contact will be by email, telephone, fax or post. All measurements and calculations will be made on the information you provide to us and we can accept no responsibilty for errors made when using this information. We will confirm all dimensions and calculations with you prior to placing the order. We do not provide a CAD design service, however we will provide you with an A4 size sheet showing our calculations and recommendations.

Owing to variations in studio lighting and printing inks, the tile colours shown within this website may differ slightly from those of actual tiles. Before making your choice it is always advisable to order a sample.
